I just had a conversation with a fellow South Ender. I was walking down Tremont Street (where I live) and saw this guy in front of me dropping five white plastic bags of trash at the corners of Tremont and West Dedham streets.
“Really?” I asked, under my breath (because I’m passive aggressive).
“Excuse me??” He responded.
“Um, why are you putting your trash out?”
“Because it’s trash day?!!” He responded.
“Today?” I asked, knowing that it is actually tomorrow (Tuesday). (Violation #1 – trash out before 7 PM night before pick up.)
“Yeah.”
“At the street corner?” (Violation #2 – trash should be put in front of building, not at street corners.)
“I live two doors down.” (Points).
“Oh. Do you live in the neighborhood?” I asked (suspiciously – perhaps he just came by to dump his shit in my neighborhood).
“Yeah, do YOU??”
“Yeah, I live here.”
“Do you OWN it??” He asked. (Good one.)
“No, I just think people should take care of their neighborhoods.”
“Swell!” He said, walking away from me. “Why don’t you write me a ticket, asshole!”
I’ll go back later, and just maybe, I will!
